About Houhora Heads (Wagener)
Holiday Park

If you’re looking for holiday park accommodation spots on the way to or from Cape Reinga then check out Houhora Heads (Wagener) Holiday Park just 2km off State Highway 1 at Houhora Heads.

Dubbed as Houhora Heaven by visitors because of its natural beauty Houhora Heads has been one of the most popular camping grounds north of the Bay of Islands since the early 1900’s. Today it is recognised throughout Northland as a favourite affordable family camping ground and holiday park. As an extra in the busy summer holidays we run a program for children and adults. From crafts to sand castles, movies and face painting.

The Subritzky and Wagener families were amongst the earliest pioneers in this region so this particular part of the far north means significantly more to us than most … we’re really keen for you to experience what it means to be a far north New Zealander and when you leave we want you to remember our part of New Zealand as being one of your favourite places in all the world!

Sustainability

At Houhora Heads (Wagener) Holiday Park we are conscious and aware of how important sustainability is. We are a natural park with many trees and a few fruit trees. They provide shade in the summer months for our guests. We have a garden in the park with herbs and vegetables for our guests to help themselves to and are currently working on a second garden.

Recycling plays a major, daily role in our camp. We have recycling stations set up in all areas of the park and we encourage our guests to dispose of their waste in the correct way.

We have food buckets in all the kitchens for scraps which go to a local farmer for his pigs. Many of our guests come to the far north to fish. We have bins for the fish waste and those are taken to a local orchard and turned into liquid fertiliser for the trees.

All the lights in the park are LED’s saving on energy bills. We are currently installing solar street lighting in the park.
